A Canadian Machine Gun Battalion, of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, was attached to each Canadian Infantry Division (which were similar in organisation to the British Infantry Division prior to the 1918 reorganisation.
The 5th Bn, C.M.G.C. was attached to the 5th Canadian Division; however, this Division was broken up in England prior to moving to France and the MG Companies were sent to act as independent units.
They were nominally formed into the 5th Bn, C.M.G.C., for administrative purposes in 1918. The Battalion consisted of:
