Glider Pilot Regiment Annual Dinner & Reunion, 2013

Static displays of the collection, for a specific audience or a wide range of people, provide the opportunity to see the items in a more ‘regular’ museum-type context, with the benefit of hands-on the items. This can provide more information and the opportunity to explain more about how the items work from a technical, rather than a practical, point-of-view.

Glider Pilot Regiment Annual Dinner & Reunion, Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess, Army Aviation Centre, Middle Wallop, Hampshire, UK (February, 2013)

To support CHALK Living History, the VMGCRA took a Vickers MG along to this dinner, to commemorate the formation of the Glider Pilot Regiment on the 24th February, 1942. Representing the 7th Bn, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, an airlanding battalion in the 1st Airborne Division. There were a number of Glider Pilots present, and families, who had flown in Operation MARKET GARDEN and had delivered the King’s Own Scottish Borderers into battle.

It was also attended by the 2nd Bn, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry Living History Group, who the VMGCRA has worked with at the Victory Show (2011 and 2012) as part of the British Airborne Platoon.
