Private display, 2012

Static displays of the collection, for a specific audience or a wide range of people, provide the opportunity to see the items in a more ‘regular’ museum-type context, with the benefit of hands-on the items. This can provide more information and the opportunity to explain more about how the items work from a technical, rather than a practical, point-of-view.

Private Display, Swindon, UK (August, 2012)

Following on from the display held in October, 2011, it was decided to hold a large display of the whole collection on a weekend in the summer. The fine weather made it possible for this to be outside in tents, meaning much more of the equipment and guns could be displayed.

With some preliminary invitations sent out, visits were made by a number of veterans, including those National Service and Korean War Veterans who had previous visited, some people who had made donations to the collection and a number of other interested parties. This included a repeat visit by members of the Machine Gun Corps History Project and the Machine Gun Corps Old Comrades’ Association. There were also some local interested people who had links to the Vickers Machine Gun through use by their relatives.
