Static displays of the collection, for a specific audience or a wide range of people, provide the opportunity to see the items in a more ‘regular’ museum-type context, with the benefit of hands-on the items. This can provide more information and the opportunity to explain more about how the items work from a technical, rather than a practical, point-of-view.

Western Front Association Somerset Branch Conference, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton, UK (October, 2010)

This was the second time I had been asked, via a friend, to take a Vickers and associated items to the Somerset Branch Conference held every two years. This was to provide something for the attendees to look at during their coffee and lunch breaks. Only a small table top display but the Vickers provides something different for these people to see. They are generally family researchers who do not collect the physical items so this provides them an opportunity to touch and feel the weight of the weapons and equipment their releatives would have fought in.
