British Guiana

Forming part of the British Army, the men of British Guiana (now Guyana) were formed into different units and some used the Vickers machine gun as part of their establishment.

Second World War

Formed as an infantry battalion along similar lines to other countries in the West Indies, there were three rifle companies and a headquarters company. This headquarters company included a Mortar platoon; however, the war establishment shows four Vickers machine guns rather than mortars – this may be an error as other infantry battalions in this region contained the Vickers (the war establishment has been transcribed as it is written).
