Postcard. Maxim Gun detachment, MGC, post – 2nd July 1916. Without respirators.

R Guilleminot, Boesspflug et Cio – Paris The second postcard shows the same group of men as the previous postcard but now with (from left to right) three wearing stiff SD caps, the Winter SD ‘Gor Blimey’ cap, soft cap, another Gor Blimey and another soft cap. They seem to be wearing the two common variations of MGC cap badge which show slightly different pattern sights on the guns.
The text on the reverse of the postcards describe the different states of dress. The sender—Claude–asks his cousin Beatie to guess which is him! It’s possible they were sent at the same time in an envelope as neither have postmarks or stamps and they would have to be read together, or at a similar time, to make sense.
