Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry)

Formed as a branch of the Machine Gun Corps, the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) consisted of Machine Gun Squadrons attached to each Cavalry Brigade and their subsequent Division.


Squadrons


Strength

The strength of the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) was recorded from June, 1916, until March, 1920, on a month-by-month basis.

At its peak, in October, 1918, it consisted of 315 officers and 7,757 other ranks – a total of 8,072 all ranks. A more detailed analysis is available on the MGC strength page.


Disbandment

The administrative run-down of the Corps included the cancellation of the Mobilization Stores Tables (Army Forms G1098) for the different units in September 1922, including:

  • Army Form G1098-241, “Machine Gun Squadron (Egypt).”
  • Army Form G1098-241A, “Machine Gun Squadron (British Cavalry) (France).”
