This provisional copy of the Field Service Regulations is the first formalisation of the doctrine of the British Army at the start of inter-war peacetime. It includes the principles of war, military policy and plans, fighting troops and their characteristics, movements by land and sea, quarters, operation orders and reports in the field, information, protection, battle, the attack, the defence, position warfare, combined naval and military operations, warfare against an uncivilised enemy and ammunition supply.
