24th Brigade Machine Gun Company

A Machine Gun Company was attached to each Infantry Brigade and their subsequent Division.

Formed from the Machine Gun Sections of:	1st Bn. The Worcestershire Regiment 2nd Bn. The East Lancashire Regiment 1st Bn. The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) 2nd Bn. The Northamptonshire Regiment

The 24th Bde. M.G. Coy. was formed, while in the 23rd Division, on the 17 February 1916, from the Machine Gun Sections of the listed infantry battalions.

As a unit of the 23rd Division, it will have taken part in the following battles and engagements.

1916

10 July	Capture of Contalmaison.*

* After the 23rd Division had captured Contalmaison the Commander-in-Chief asked the Divisional Commander what he would like. General Babington replied: “Give me back my 70th Brigade.” Within a week the 70th Brigade returned to the 23rd Division.

As a unit of the 8th Division, it will have taken part in the following battles and engagements.
